Louis Ted Seith was the commander of the 483rd bomb group which destroyed the only flying prototype of the Natzi Long Range Bomber and 53 fighter jets while more than 200 enemy fighters opened fire on the bomb squadron without an escort from ally fighter jets. This is not the only thing that Louis T. Seith did. Louis T. Seith had important roles, participated in missions overseas, and was a strong character. I chose this topic because he is my family and he is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Louis was born on January 17, 1921 and passed away on March 6, 2007 at the age of 86. Louis T. Seith had many important roles. He was the commander for the 483rd bomb group which pressed on to their target even though they did not have a fighter jet escort due to bad weather. Soon he had lots of experience with war both as a flight force commander and a military planner, and people noticed he was an extraordinary leader. Louis received several awards for honor from the Korean War. His teaching at the Air Force Academy resulted in several strong officers who distinguished themselves during Vietnam and other wars. It is hard to pick out his most dramatic accomplishment since he was part of the WWII success against the Nazis, was a terrific military leader and received the Distinguished Service Cross, which is the highest honor one can get without dying. After he became the Chief of Staff, he was promoted to a 4 star general because of all of the things he accomplished. When he got the rank of 4 stars, there were only 13 other 4 star generals. He got the 4 star rank when he was the commander of the 483rd bomb group “For extraordinary heroism while leading a bomb group on 18 July 19th…” (Record of Award Decoration By Agency Other Than War
