Louis Zamperini lived a long hard life, but in the end he overcame his challenges and was an inspiration to many people. Louis Zamperini was born in January of 1917 and raised in California, and was encouraged by his brother Pete to join the track team. Demolishing long distance races, he was invited to join the USA Olympic team to pursue his dream. Louie was training to compete again in 1940 in Tokyo, but was cancelled when World War II broke out. Louie then joined the army and was a bombardier in the Army Air Corps. Zamperini was in a plane that crashed in the Pacific and was nowhere to be found. Forty-seven days later, Louie and his friend Phil were captured by the Japanese and obscured from America. They were taken as prisoner of war. Louie then rejoined his family and found a wife. Later on in his life he would have many more challenges in his life. The reason why Louis was so tough and was a person who never gave up was because he was forgiving, and courageous.
Louis Zamperini was a forgiving person for many reasons. To begin with, The Green Hornet has just disintegrated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii. Louie and his team were withdrawn for rest, and just when they speculating they were safe engines blew out from left to right. Phil knew they were going to crash. Only Phil, Mac and Louie survived the frightful crash. While on the raft, Mac recognized they had no future in the next couple of days. “... Understanding that Mac had acted in a panic, he reassured him that they’d soon be rescued. Mac said nothing” (107).
