Everyday Use/ Marriage is a Private affair I’ve always wondered why in the previous generations it was against the rules to marry outside the tribe. Was the natural feeling of Love controlled to a minimum because of who said what was approved and/or not approved of a bridesmaid?. Can common beliefs be expressed and executed differently? To begin with, the story “Everyday use” it centers on the relationship between a mother and her two daughters and the conflict that ensues between daughters and between a mother and a daughter. Dee is ambitious, curious, extroverted, is in school, & wants the finer things in life. Maggie is humble, shy & quiet and more content with her life. Dee questions her sister Maggie the use of the quilts. Seeing that she can use

those quilts as an everyday display to further represent her roots. Maggie puts the use of the quilts to her everyday needs, she sleeps with, she’ll soon be married to that’ll go to use for years, also when she has kids. Maggie will experience the quilt. Dee will not, because they will be hanging up as a display for people of people to view. That shows that two people who appreciates their roots can express them differently
