Some reasons why voter turnout is lower in the United States versus other advanced democratic countries is they have different electoral systems and electoral rule, such as in some countries when a person becomes a certain age, they are automatically registered to vote. Being automatically registered to vote makes it easier and is less of a hassle. My aunt lived in Australia and there they have a compulsory voting law. A person could be issued a fine or given a ticket for not voting. In the United States, there is a two-party system where the Democratic Party and the Republican Party compete against each other. People have the urge to vote; nothing will happen to U.S. citizens for not registering to vote or for not voting. In the Unites States a person could not just show up at any place to vote, the person has to make sure they vote within a specific district. …show more content…
Another reason United States voting is low is because if a person has a felony, the person’s right to vote is taken away and it is not easy to get that right back. Compared to other countries it would seem that the United States do not want its citizens to vote because of any of the hassles a person may endure. A person’s income group is also a reason for the low voter turnout rate in the United States. There are also a number of unregistered citizens, illegal immigrants, which cause low voter turnout rate.
