While assessing Lt. Col Adams I compared his skills using the Skills Model. The skills model frames leadership by describing the five components of leader performance. CITATION. This model is a great tool to use in comparing an individual’s skills with the five components. It is a great indicator of what kind of leadership or management position they should hold. John Adams is an aeronautical engineer in the Air Force. He was able to move through ranks quickly and was promoted before his peers. Lt. Col Adams duties consisted of managing a shift of 15-20 people and being responsible for routine matienece. Adams conducted and analyzed the base so that he could properly assess what jobs needed to be cut, how target numbers were going to be reached and how he was going to figure out the retirement crisis. Adams was able to meet his goals assigned to him but in the process he recived several complats from military and civillians on the base. Adams Base commander wanted answers of why things were in such turmoil on base. Adams explained that he meet the deadline and target number by cutting back and meeting the guidelines of the early retirement program. His base commander was wanted answers about the complaints because he “forgot about the bigger picture. The “a bigger picture is referring to the situation as a whole. Yes assessing Lt. Col Adams did do a great job at meeting the cuts that the government wanted, but did not think about how it will effect the base in the future. Overall Adams is a great leader but did not possess the skills to operate a base on that large of a scale. Adams should have listen to his co-workers opinions when making his decisions about Base X. I think that things would have gone smoother if he used his problem-solving skills more. Effective problem solving
