We all experience them, whether they’re ordinary or insane. They’re a conversation starter, a journal entry, a beginning to a story. They are dreams. Dreams are these amazing things that are still continuously being researched about to this very day. They can say a lot about a person: how they’re feeling, what’s causing them stress, or even why they’re happy. Most everyone can say that they have had many dreams in their lifetime, but no one can say that they remember them all; which is the unfortunate part about dreaming. They bring imagination to a whole new level, employing creativity in a variety of ways. I find dreams so interesting because they are far beyond my knowledge and seemingly quite hard to understand. My goal in this paper is to augment what I already know and extend deeper into the less talked about components of dreaming. First and foremost, knowing why we dream furthers us into everything else about dreams. Without them our lives would be a crazy mess and would consist of a lot less sanity. Dreams …show more content…
It is when you’re dreaming, but you know exactly what you’re doing and are in control everything. “The term was coined by Frederik van Eeden who used the word ‘lucid’ in the sense of mental clarity” (Lucid Dreaming). Lucid dreaming starts to happen when a person is in the middle of a dream and they realise that the dream is not reality. The realization that the dream is not real is usually noticed when the person who’s dreaming figures out that what is happening is basically impossible. However, lucid dreaming is not the same as being able to control your dream. Some people say that they feel like they have left their bodies. This is called an out of body experience (OBE) and people feel it in a variety of ways. “In the most typical, you are lying in bed, apparently awake when suddenly you experience a range of primarily somatic sensations, often including vibrations, heaviness, and paralysis”
