Knowing about Martin Luther and John Fea inspires me to look back in the past. The past is very important for Christians because it is an ongoing work of God’s creation. The Bible is a great example that allows us to look back in the past and see what God has done for us. God’s interventions played a huge role in history, thus it has a huge impact on our lives. John Fea’s argument created a turning point in the history of Christianity as well as Martin Luther. Martin Luther is one of many examples of John Fea’s argument. God wants us to turn towards him and other and not shelter ourselves. Isolationism prevents us from getting to know others with different political orientation, religious belief, race, and class. We need to live in society. For instance, Martin Luther was a monk for over fifteen years. He wrote many hymns about churches and homes. He was best known for “A Mighty Fortress is our God”. It was written a little after the Reformation period. Luther experienced a spiritual breakdown. He came out of a season of internal doubt. He was terrified of the wrath of God. On April 17, 1521 Luther came in the emperor’s presence for the first time (Null p145). He went to Worms to recant. Martin Luther was being asked to confess publicly about his mistakes he has written about the gospel, the church, and Christendom. Luther said “Therefore, I ask by the mercy of God, may your most serene majesty, expose my errors,”(Noll, p145) Luther’s words was one of the most momentous change in history in Europe and the Church. He couldn't recant until he was certain about God’s testimony; therefore, he left it in God’s hands. His conscience was all about the word of God. His doubt led to a change. Protestants protected him. Many people
