Lymphoscintigraphy

Lymphoscintigraphy is an imaging procedure used to examine your lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is made up of lymph vessels and lymph nodes. Lymph vessels carry the fluid that drains from the tissues in your body (lymph) into the lymph nodes. Your lymphatic system helps your body fight off viruses and bacteria. Cancer can also spread through the lymphatic system.

This procedure creates images of your lymphatic system (scintigrams). This is done using a special camera (gamma camera) and a small amount of radioactive material (radiotracer). Images are taken after you are injected with the radiotracer. The radiotracer gives off energy that is picked up by the gamma camera and used to create the images of your lymphatic
