Anderson’s Feed, a futuristic society depicts the oblivion among the vast majority of the population through a representative group of characters. In a satirical manner, Feed opens readers’ eyes to show how technology consumes American’s everyday lives. Readers can comprehend how functions of the humanities directly relate to the book as well as everyday life. Anderson’s depiction of society also enables readers to see how awareness and understanding of art has diminished. Comparatively, although not exactly the same, the reader can also make lasting observations about human experience by reading Feed. The main functions of the humanities that relate to feed would be critical thinking and language. Critical thinking enables individuals to reason with ideas and form logical thoughts on a topic. The feed implanted in the brains of the vast majority of the population, however, nearly stops critical thinking in its tracks. For Titus and his friends, the feed does the thinking for everyone. They no longer need to think long and hard about simplistic words, all they need to do is look them up on the English-to-English wordbook and everything they would ever want to know as easily accessible.
