Why Heathrow should get a third runway.

Businesses across the UK rely on Heathrow Airport to expand their businesses and keep the market open for new businesses to come in. Heathrow is pivotal in keeping London one of the most important business capitals in the world, due to its links in central London and other major cities across the UK. But with Heathrow running at 98% capacity [1] it needs a third runway, which will not only help organise the current flights they have but also open up new long haul flights to different destinations around the world. By expanding Heathrow, you are helping the economy, with a potential boost of £147 billion [2] but there are people that do not agree with the commission.

Looking at this from a business point of view, the expansion of Heathrow will equal more trade and business for the whole of the UK, and economically will help the UK more than Gatwick would. But even from a tourism point of view, Heathrow is better connected to different parts of the UK compared to Gatwick, and it will be even more connected after the rail projects around the UK have finished. The only thing holding Heathrow is the political view point, the Conservatives who have the majority do not fully stand behind it even though the majority of the Labour party does and so do all the major businesses in and around London. I believe that expanding Heathrow opens up the UK to far more possibilities in business, trade, travel and tourism compared to Gatwick, and that is not saying Gatwick is bad it just means that the UK needs one major airport and Heathrow needs to be that one airpot if the UK is going to compete with the other European and international airports. Now all we can do is wait till parliament have a vote on the issue and see whether they agree with the commissions recommendations, and I hope they
