Mac Cosmetics MAC Cosmetics (Makeup Artist Cosmetics) was founded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo in 1984. MAC cosmetics founders directed their product line towards professionals in the beauty and fashion industry that had to rely on heavy cosmetics, cake makeup, and stage makeup to create the visual effects needed to withstand bright lighting during photo shoots. MAC provides a wide variety of products for the everyday consumer. They have eye shadow, lipstick, lip-gloss, all types of foundations, concealer, eyeliner, eyebrow pencils, nail polish, lip liners, stage makeup, eyelashes, mascara, and the list can go on. Among all of these make-up products, MAC also sells fragrances and top of the line make-up brushes. They sell skin care products as well. Most MAC products are oil free. Some MAC products do contain natural oils which function as emollients. That makes their product unique compared to others. MAC also has a line called MAC PRO that is specifically for the professionals in the industry. MAC PRO Membership enables the makeup professional to look to MAC for more than satisfying all of your product needs. Throughout the program they provide you with the highest level of service, unique educational experiences and the most comprehensive selection of professional makeup. MAC PRO Membership has become the industry's leading preferred customer program for the make-up professional. Pricing varies in MAC ($8-$207) cosmetics depending on what you are buying. Given that MAC is a high end make-up company; they tend to be pricier than the stuff you buy from Walgreens. They began as a stage make-up product. Naturally, they made their product with the finest pigments. It is also a “heavier” product. The products themselves are so bright and vivid — they have what makeup lovers refer to as “high color payoff” — that they make most others look chalky and cheap in comparison. MAC eye shadows in particular, are a favorite, with hundreds and hundreds of matte options, plus a range of shimmer finishes, at $14.50 for a single, small .05-oz. container.
