At least once in their lives, people often resort to deception in order to achieve what they want, even though it may not rightfully be theirs. In William Shakespeare's most bloody and tragic play, Macbeth, the main character uses deception to achieve what is not rightfully his—the throne of Scotland. The play starts in a very dark scene which establishes the contradictory and deceptive aspect of human nature as three witches plot to meet Macbeth. These three Weird Sisters’ opening paradox presents the concept that “Fair is foul and foul is fair” (1.1.12). The deception is already set in the play, things are not as it may seem.
