From being loyal and basically a good man, by the end of the play, Macbeth has worsened into evil personified, and totally inhumane in his actions. In Act 5, Scene 7 to 8, when his enemies surround the castle of Dunsinane and try to drag him down the character of Macbeth is displayed as rather reckless and bold. When he faces Macduff in the deadly combat, Macbeth begins to regain some of his prior bravery as a fighter and although he has lost everything, he still refuses to surrender.

Macbeth vows to fight till the end, saying as long as the men are alive, he will focus on killing them and not himself. After Macbeth has killed Young Siward, he states,

“Why should I play the Roman fool and die
On mine own sword? Whiles I see lives, the gashes

Sutherland played as President Snow, who is a tyrannical and ruthless President of Panem. Snow possesses total power in the government and has proven to be a cruel, and murdered severals. This is similar to the characteristics of Macbeth and how Macbeth has killed or ordered the killing of King Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macduff and her family, and now Young Siward. President Snow is also ruthlessly cruel, sadistic, violent, greedy, arrogant, power-hungry, wicked and utterly evil man, who has maintained little respect for human life. He constantly threatened and killed people who stood in his way to holding absolute power over Panem. He was paranoid that he will lose his power. As a result, he murdered allies and enemies. Likewise, to when Macbeth got rid of Banquo and tried to kill Banquo’s son in order to avoid any chances of Banquo’s son from getting the throne. Macbeth and President Snow use their power similarly in an insecure way, killing those who pose a threat to them. They also have no foundation of achieving that power other than killing those who were in their way. We believe Donald Sutherland will suit the role of Macbeth perfectly because of his role as President Snow in the Hunger
