As a leader, on must uphold the responsibilities of their particular position. Though the President of the United States and a dictator are both leaders of their country, how they grasp the responsibilities they are given are far from similar. Both the President of the United States and dictators were rulers of their countries, but the President of the United States runs a democratic government while dictators run under their own ruling. The duties of the President of the United States are to defend, preserve, and protect the Constitution. The President must abide by certain criteria after elected into office, he is not allowed to make up his own rules, but instead strictly follow in the steps of other Presidents before him. “We therefore the representatives of the United States of America in General Congress assembled do, in the name & by authority of the good people of these states, reject and renounce all allegiance & subjection” (Jefferson 810). The President is presented to provide good for humanity, he is not a leader known to be selfish, but instead try to do better for the pieces of America broken by previous events. The duties of a dictator are to dictate by his own ruling. Dictators do not have to benefit anyone, unless they choose to do so. They may not even realize they are dictators; more often than not they call themselves when holding that type of power prime ministers, presidents, or chancellors. These dictators are very aware of the power they hold and do not do much for the people. “To be feared is much safer than to be loved” (Machiavelli 800). Dictators may want the people to agree with their decisions, but they come to terms with the fact that not everyone will like them and they also tend to not care because they are the ones in power, not the people. A leader is a person who commands either a group, organization, or a country. The president of the United States and dictators are both leaders of their country and as leaders their tasks are not easy. As the United States President, the one in position must uphold to his word, but as a dictator, though they are in a different position, as a leader he must do the same. The President of the United States and a dictator also hold a majority of their countries power, though they must go through trials to make new laws, there is no difference in the fact that a dictator and the President of the United States both have power in their territories. Not only can they create new laws through a standard process, but they can also be the deciding factor, and make trade with other countries. The President of the United States is spreading the power by being democratic, but a dictator will either choose to divide power or conquer all on his own.
The President of the United States is elected into power; whereas a dictator is either elected or forces himself into power. The United States, being the democratic government that it is holds an election within the whole country, where there are candidates running to hold the position of a President. “A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people” (Jefferson 806). A dictator, though he may not call himself that, usually is not elected into office, but instead takes over the power of whoever was running before. The people of these countries allow these rulers to take over, so for the United States being able to elect someone is the countries decision as a whole. Countries with dictators as leaders are simply forced to deal with the consequences of their leaders decisions until that dictator is forced out of office. “He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people” (Jefferson 805). A king is a dictator, and a president is a doer, neither one can make all of the people happy, but both are to do what is best for their country, either for the betterment of the people, or what they think
