In the late 1930’s a man named George R. Kelly (also known as Machine Gun Kelly) was a famous Gangster, bootlegger, and also a Kidnapper.
Machine Gun Kelly was born in July 1895 in Memphis Tennessee. His Family was a very wealthy family when he was growing up. His Mom and dad’s name was George F Barnes, and Elizabeth Kelly Barnes (A-H Alcatraz History). When Machine Gun Kelly went to college, he was a poor student but had the highest grade percentage for him for personal hygiene-a C plus (10 most Real-life Inmates).

When Machine Gun Kelly was in Prison they believe he helped two other Prison people escape from Alcatraz. In his years of being a gangster, he got his nickname from his favorite gun, the Thompson submachine gun. When Machine Machine Gun Kelly was on the loose, his reward for capture ranged from 2,000 dollars to 5,000 dollars. Then when we captured two of the wealthiest people in Oklahoma city, Machine Gun Kelly and his wife Kathryn pulled off the biggest ransom of 200,000 dollars. He kept a 45 cal cartridge casings from his Tommy Gun for souvenirs. Later on, In the years Machine Gun Kelly was caught and put in Jail. When the FBI came to capture him, he raised his hands and said “don’t shoot. The FBI finally captured a famous gangster, bank robber, and kidnapper. He was sentenced to life in Alcatraz. When Machine Gun Kelly came to Alcatraz he had a new name for him. His new name was Pop Gun Kelly. When Machine Gun Kelly was at Alcatraz he worked as a alter boy and also in the Prison Chapel. Pop Gun Kelly spent 17 years on Alcatraz in the Prison Industries. Before Machine Gun Kelly passed away he said to his friends that he did all of these criminal things for love.
