1940’s Art

In the 1940’s many things happened. There was change and new things being made; as well as War and new developments taking place. One type of change is art like: advertisement, pop art, cartoons, and more. Events in the 1940’s greatly influenced the art.

Three events that happened in the 1940’s was War, Advertising, and Museum’s. In 1941 through 1945 the United States was in World War II. During the War technology is being developed; such as nylon, plastics and Styrofoam along with much more. Advertising is another thing that is being strongly developed. During World War II, spending went from $2.1 billion to $2.8 billion in advertisements. Some naming of the advertisements are “loose lips sink ships”, “world of tomorrow”, and more. Advertising became even more popular after the war. Another thing that became popular after war is museums.Unveiling its new $200 million collection in the Whitney Museum. The Boston’s Museum is popular museum.

The types of art being Animation, Postmodern art, and Dramatic realism. Museums are as well still popular. Animation was used in TV for the first time. Animation was a very popular thing in the 1940s. Postmodern art is a popular art. Mark Tansey is an artist who does postmodern art. His type of artwork is art history. Tansey has an exhibit in the Boston Museum. His artwork is about different theory and notation. Another popular form of art is Dramatic realism. Dramatic realism was seen in advertising and cartoons. Some was war admitisment and some was for movie posters. some of the people who did the cartoons were William Steig, James Thurber, and many more.
