Malala is not only a great influence to many people, she is also a great role model. This, however, is only an opinion. Many people may not agree with this and say she is just an ordinary 15 year old girl living in Pakistan. Which is true, she is an ordinary girl, but what made her a role model is how she was able to inspire others and stand up for her passion. Having the ability to inspire others and passion is the most essential quality that a person needs to be a good role model. The most essential quality any role model can have is a strong passion and ability to inspire. Role models, in general, should be inspirational to others and passionate about what they believe. According to “What is a Role Model? Five Qualities that Matter to Teens”, by Marilyn Price-Mitchell, she states, “By far, the greatest attribute of a role model is an ability to inspire others” which means many people’s role model is also their inspiration. This proves that many people agree that the ability to inspire is the most essential quality that a role model can have. Another example of a great, passionate role model is the man in the water. In the book, The Man in the Water by Roger Rosenblatt, he quotes Windsor “‘...[b]ut I’ve never seen one with that much commitment.’” The quote is saying that the man was passionate and committed to saving the other passengers rather than himself. This comes to show that he had to be a very passionate or else he would have saved himself instead of “fighting against death” as he passes the lifeline to the other passengers that were there with him. Also in the book, Rosenblatt states, “[f]or a while he was Everyman and proof (as if one needed it) that no man is ordinary.” This quote means that the man had to be a great inspiration to everyone and show society that everyone is unique. Both Malala and the man risked their lives for others because they are passionate about their actions. They are both are also a great inspiration because they encouraged many others to stand up for what they believe and be selfless about it. On the other side, they are both very different because Malala’s actions were for a cause that can help the world, while the man died to save other people’s lives which is also very good for society. They also both are risking or risked their lives, but in different ways. Malala was shot on the side of her head once her identity was revealed and was quoted to say that when the Taliban came to kill her, she will still stand up for her cause and say that what they are doing is wrong. In the end, both the man in the water and Malala have many similarities and differences. To sum up, a key quality of being a role model is the ability to inspire and being passionate. This can be seen in Malala because she inspired others to stand up for what they believe in. You can also see how far being passionate took Malala and her crusade.
