In today’s NFL, we all know Malcolm Smith, as he is a great linebacker and had a heroic Super Bowl performance for the Seattle Seahawks. However, prior to that Super Bowl not many people knew who Malcolm Smith was. In fact, the two seasons prior to 2013, Malcolm Smith had only started 3 games in his entire career. His rookie year in 2011, he didn’t start a single game and only recorded 1 sack and 10 tackles all year. His second year in 2012, Smith once again was pretty quiet throughout the year, however to his credit he did start 3 games and actually scored a touchdown off of a recovered fumble. Despite this, he still only recorded 12 tackles and was just seen as a young growing linebacker. I tell you all this just to give a perspective of what Malcolm Smith was doing before his Super Bowl performance. Smith wasn’t bad or anything, but he certainly wasn’t expected to do what he did and wasn’t seen as a key player for the Seahawks going into that game. But, he proved all of us wrong. In Super Bowl XLVII, Smith and the Seahawks absolutely DOMINATED the Denver Broncos, in one of the most lopsided Super Bowl games of all time. In this game, Smith obviously stepped up, the whole reason he is here, as he recorded 6 Tackles to go along with a pic 6. This was the start to Smith’s takeoff in the NFL. He won Super Bowl MVP, on a stacked team over guys like Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, or any defensive guys like Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, or Richard Sherman. Smith became one of the more surprising Super Bowl MVP’s in the history of the NFL. Obviously for Smith, the story doesn’t end there.
