During the AutoBiography of Malcolm X as to Alex Haley several events and several features are shown and discussed however three of the biggest and most prominent events are Racial Identity, Systemic Oppression, and Integration vs Separation. These are brought up and shown several times however there are shining moments in which each of these social issues stand out on their own. These events can be highlighted during Malcolm's stint in prison, his interactions with his teacher while in school in Lansing, and his Hajj to mecca. A great way that Racial Identity is shown in the book is during Malcolm’s prison time. While in Prison Malcolm grew and developed more and changde more than he had his entire life. During this time Malcolm went from being a street rat, a thief, a robber and a criminal to a devoted holy man who credited Mr. Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam for saving him. During his stay in prison Malcolm had attempted to write to Elijah Muhammad but his education and vocabulary was too low and he couldn't write intelligently beyond street grammar, so he began reading and …show more content…
When Malcolm was in the eighth grade his teacher, Mr. Ostrowski, held him after class to talk about his future. He asked Malcolm “what do you see in your future” Malcolm responded by saying a lawyer or something like that yet mr Ostrowski told him that he can’t and that because he was a “nigger” he needed to think about something else, like a carpenter because he was “good with his hands”.
