The various stories told in Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcom Gladwell showed me how I am a product of society; or rather immersed into community in which we associated commonly share and/or taught values (Giddens, A., 2013)). Reading the first few chapters made me realize the opportunities I was given to attend Cornell University.
I went to school in a rural town called Windsor, in New York. However, when I was 7th grade, the most influential opportunity happened to me. I was placed in an isolated room and sent home due to an unknown chronic cough (caused by acid reflux). My advocate, my mom fought for home schooling through the school until we found out what was wrong. This program, created by the realization of the need for students
