Based on the text, one of the best ways for immigrants to adjust to life in the United States is to get a job. As stated in the text, “What to bring” one immigrant from Central Africa arrived at Kennedy Airport in 2002 with twenty cents and worked at a car wash to contribute to his college degree in finance. As well as in the story “A Place to Call Home” right when they came to the U.S Miya’s dad got a job as a cab driver and her mother was cleaning people’s houses. If immigrants who come to the United States get a job they could have enough money to obtain a job. Additionally, if immigrants had a job they could also support their family.
Immigrants could adjust living in the United States by learning to speak English. According to “A place to call home” immigrants came to the U.S without being able to speak English. In the article, 52% say it is very hard to get a job without knowing how to speak English. Immigrants coming to the United States without knowing English are a big barrier for most immigrants. If the immigrants knew English they could understand what people are saying without having to have someone translate for them.
