What is an information system?
Any system where you can put in information, sort it, and use it to increase knowledge.

Crescent Healthcare Case
Technology has not been updated for 20 years, which decreases efficiency. The company does not keep up with the times and their software is not up to its full potential since it is not up to date. The system can only do the bare minimum, which is not adequate for a GROWING industry.
Why haven’t they replaced it? * legacy * lack of IT help
Advantages of an in house development * are familiar with the company and its process * cheaper than hiring new employees * faster * there will be in house people who will be able to maintain the system
Disadvantages of an in house development * might have IT spread thin * might not have the skills/qualifications * an outside source might have tips and tricks to avoid setbacks and make the process quicker and painless
