The Manchurian Candidate The Manchurian Candidate was originally released on October 24th, 1962. A description of the original movie is that, near the end of the Korean War a platoon of soldiers of attacked, captured, and brainwashed. After the wars recedes the platoon of men is sent home. Sergeant Raymond Shaw is known as a hero by some of his platoon. However Bennet Marco the platoon commander at the time finds himself having terrible nightmares. However with the help of a fellow soldier they find themselves looking to uncover the truth. The remake of The Manchurian Candidate was released on July 30th, 2004. When Ben finds a strange implant in his back he really begins to wonder what really happened. After watching the original film and the remake I found that there are many things different between the two movies but on the same note there are also many things that are alike. Right away after watching both movies you cant help but notice that the time and settings of the movie are drastically different. In the original film the soldiers platoon in located in Japan in 1952 and that is where they are brainwashed. In the remake of the film the platoon is in Kuwait in 1991 and they are taken somewhere to the desert to be brainwashed. One thing that both of the films have in common are that every one of the characters names are the same however some of the dialogue spoken by the characters changes, but some stays the same. During both of the movies Ben Marco can be found associating with Allen Melvin. Allen was a friend of Ben’s who served in the same platoon and was also having the same nightmares. In the original movie Allen contacts Shaw by sending him a letter describing the dreams that he is having. In the new movie Allen wakes up from his dreams and has a journal in which he writes down what he sees
