For this assignment, we were prompted to draw something that came to mind while listening to songs from a secret garden. I decided to grab a paper plate to make a perfect circle to draw a mandala on my paper. As the song began playing, it transported me to a different time, all of a sudden I was a young kid and began to remember different stages of my life while listening to the music, and I became inspired to draw and color a Mandala with happy colors. The melody brought bittersweet personal memories such as, the memory of losing my father, as I continued to reflect on my life, I was appreciative of every bump that I’ve encountered along the way and am happy to be where I am at currently. This melody brought so many emotions positive and negative. As I heard the melody I thought of the composer, on how gifted he or she was to compose such an amazing piece of music. I have always liked music as I grew up listening to my father playing the guitar as he sang some wonderful songs. The guitar is one of my favorite musical instruments, when I see a guitar I think of my father and all the songs he used to sing. As an adult, there is much nostalgia when I see an older male playing the guitar as I imagine my father. Music is therapeutic as I always play music when at home, I prefer music over television. It is amazing that music can have such healing properties. I have used music in the past to help my mood when I’m feeling anxious as a positive outlet. I have always liked music but I have found a deeper understanding and appreciation of it after reading Music Therapy our text. I was amazed while I read the story of Rose a 90-year old that had advanced Alzheimer’s disease and how music therapy was a positive outlet for her. I have found a stronger appreciation of
