In this picture book Maple and Willow are sisters who spend all their time together during the summer, then the oldest sister Maple begins school. She comes home every day with exiting tales about what she does at school. Then Willow tells Maple about her adventures with her new imaginary friend Pip (an acorn). As the story progresses the older sister Maple begins to feel left out that Willow is having so much fun. This then drives Willow to share her imaginary friend Pip with her sister. Maples shows all the kids at school her new friend. Now when Maple gets home from school Pip, Maple, and Willow all play together. This book has won no awards. The book is designed for students Pre-K to third grade and it fits this age range well because it brings up issues that some families maybe facing with one child leaving for school. Although the text could be used on any audience that is experiencing a change of someone going to school or experiencing separation. The illustrations do their part to tell more than the words do. For example Pip is an acorn but it is never said that he is an acorn. Images go to show that Pip is an acorn that changes into a small acorn person. George and his friend the man in the yellow hat go to a chocolate factory where the man in the yellow hat buys candy and tells George to wait while he checks out. The monkey gets distracted and instead explores the factory during which time he steps on a lever that makes the candy machine work very fast! The workers can’t keep up and George accidently starts to help the put candies in the boxes and helps them catch up. When he has finished helping he is offered a free box of chocolates but turns them down because he ate a lot of the ones he helped box. This book has not won any
