In Shakespeare's play, “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar,” Marc Antony plays a very big role in the play and in Julius Caesar’s life. Being Caesar’s best friend, Antony was very upset after his death. By being upset, this made Antony want to avenge his best friend and get justice for his death. At his funeral Antony talks to the crowd, and gets them all against Brutus, as he wants. Antony does three things as he's talking to the crowd. He wants power over the crowd, which he receives, also his many significant actions throughout the play, and lastly, his interactions with others and the crowd. By doing all of these things, Antony gains control of the crowd and gets him exactly where he wants them.

Marc Antony had many inner thoughts and ideas. One was that Antony wanted power. The reader can tell he wants power because he states, “But here's a parchment with the seal of Caesar; I found it in his closet, ‘tis his will…” by stating this, the crowd persistently pleads to hear his will. Antony says, “Have patience , gentle friends, I must not read it…” by doing so, Antony is using Caesar’s will to gain control of the crowd. Antony wants to be able to control the crowd, so they will “avenge” Caesar, basically Antony just wants the crowd to do his dirty work for him by killing Brutus. His significant actions continuously led the crowd to induce that Brutus was a murderer. Antony repeats the word “honorable” in a sarcastic way to emphasize that Brutus was a dishonorable man and thus is constantly turning the crowd against Brutus. Antony also reads Caesar’s will to the crowd to give an emotional effect so they turn against Brutus all the more.
