Going into my high school you are either supposed to take an art class or music class for your fine arts credit. Most kids going into their freshman year drop their band, orchestra, or choir class, and pick up a drawing class once in high school. I decided to stay with band and also do competitive marching band. Sticking with band for my four years of high school would have to be the best choice I have ever made. It has shaped me into a responsible, hardworking man. My Sophomore year is when I noticed band had really influenced me in the way I am today. It came around to concert ensemble auditions and I was originally going to audition on soprano clarinet, but my directors asked me if I wanted to audition on bass clarinet. They asked me two weeks before auditions and I was nervous because I told them I would. For those two weeks, I practiced every single day, playing my scales, and the etudes. Finally, the concert ensembles were posted. I recall running down to the band room during passing period and frantically finding my name. My freshman year we had an amazing group of seniors who took us in like we were family. When they graduated we lost a good group of kids because they were all so humble. My junior year of marching band I decided to try out for leadership. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the role, but that didn’t mean I didn’t lead by example every day to the younger classmen. Once senior year came around I decided to try out again for leadership. For my senior year our directors decided to change the way leadership was chosen. It was chosen by the band student body and the directors, but mainly by the students. I sent in my essay and waited for the results. The team was decided, and I was on the list as Saxophone Section Leader. I was honored to receive that position because I knew I was chosen by the directors and the student
