Marching band is an activity I enjoy in which I have set goals for upcoming seasons and have seen personal growth throughout each. I have been in marching band since my freshman year of highschool and will soon be ending my junior year. I thoroughly enjoy marching band and this past year I had a leadership position as the section leader of the clarinets. Kids who are not involved in marching band tend to have a negative opinion of those who are involved in it; however, it is a great and busy experience. I have enjoyed seeing myself grow over the past couple of years and have set some goals for myself for next year. While our marching band is highly praised each and every year, people who are not involved tend to not understand what we do and why we do it. Marching band kids can tend to be exclusive in their friendships, but we all do our best to be welcoming and kind to anyone we meet. I enjoy marching band for that exact reason; marching band is very welcoming and easy to become a part of. I have made many of my good friends throughout marching band and excelled in my musical abilities along the way. We have many different traditions: chants during games, senior gifts, and band camp. It’s safe to say I had a late start to my instrument, but marching band has helped me to grow musically. Clarinet parts in marching band music tend to have many runs and strings of notes at fast tempos which I wasn’t able to play at the beginning of my freshman year. I am very proud to say that with the help of all of the rehearsals and of the student leaders, I was able to conquer hard parts in my music.
