“I have not told half of what I saw.” Famous for exploring and introducing many things to his country, Marco Polo traveled farther than most during his time. Marco Polo was a very well known explorer whose travels to China inspired men to explore the world. He was an Italian merchant, and his nickname was “II Milione.” He was born in Venice Italy, even though the date he was born is unknown they say it was September 15th of 1254.(Szalay) He was born to a wealthy family ,but sadly grew up parentless. His father was never home to take care of him because he worked all the time, and his mother sadly passed away when he was little. His dad’s name was Niccoló Polo and his mothers was Nicole Anna Defuseh. He lived with his uncle Maffeo. Marco did not meet his father till he was 15, he was “the father he never knew he had.” The Polo family had a very good business, which Polo took over later in life.(Szalay)(biography.com)
