In Lone Survivor , Marcus Luttrell tells the harrowing experience he had while on his mission in the afghanistan mountains. Although much of the book is not on the mission itself , He tries to get an emphasis on his nearly impossible training for the seals and how he was born a seal. Albeit some parts of his book come off as somewhat arrogant although the SEALs are a strong force to content with like he stated here “ I managed to fall from about fifty feet up a climbing rope and really hurt my thigh.”(Luttrell 82) In this book he talks of his training which from my standpoint is impossible but some men like him have the courage to do those sort of things. Hundreds of men drop out of their class and they almost get punished for one of the team giving up. That is how SEALs have camaraderie. The SEALs based on this book are men who never give up. But will die even if they are the best. Whether or not they believe they are the best or not they are near the top of the food chain in war. In some instances that mentality could be to blame on how his team failed to complete their mission and how his team completely died but him. In his defense though it would seem that even in the face of overwhelming force such as stated here “ every time i tried to advance even a few yards, get even a few feet higher, they drove me back.” (Luttrell 238). In his last stand his teammates all fell around him. Almost a anguish to his grief he heard “Help me, Marcus! Please help me!”(Luttrell 239). He had heard his friend die but also that was his last torment before he went home after escaping. He would forever hear mike screaming. This shows and tests the mental endurance of the SEALs how they mentally had to prepare for the inevitable even though Marcus had thought they never would need to
