Margaret Eleanor Atwood was born in Ottawa on November 18th, 1939. She attended both the University of Toronto, studying English, philosophy, and French, and Radcliff College for her MA. Influences like Northrop Fry and Jay MacPherson led to the beginning of her published writing career which further led to Atwood’s receiving the Governor General’s Award in 1966 for her poetry collection, The Circle Game. The world renowned author has published more novels and poetry collections, (The Edible Woman (1969), The Journals of Susanna Moodie (1970), Alias Grace (1996) etc.), has had her works “translated into more than 30 different languages” (biography.com), and remains, to this day, one of Canada’s greatest living contemporary writers.
