Marianne M. Jennings is remarkable in her fictional story, A Business Tale: A Story of Ethics, Choices, Success—and a Very Large Rabbit, explaining how being ethical can be rewarding in the long run. We all want to survive through difficult times quickly and fairly unscathed, but some people would cheat, lie, and steal to progress where they want to be. However, where does that get them? Right where it got Drew, Heather, and Steve; bankrupt and serving jail time. It was Edgar’s ethical decisions to be honest, responsible, and do what was right that lead him to be successful and win in the long run. This tale begins in the present day with the owner of Tortoise Enterprises Edgar P. Benchley, at his desk, sighing. Edgar thought back on where he was today and his ownership of a successful business. I admired Ari for teaching Edgar good ethical behavior. There are not enough ethical role models in this world. I did not like the way his friends mocked Edgar for doing the right thing. I have had to make several ethical decisions in my career similar to Edgar’s. In a medical clinic where I was a medical biller, the owner passed away suddenly. This left the clinic with no leadership. The other employees did and stole what they wanted. I made the decision to contact the attorneys handling the clinic and advised them of the situation in which they set up temporary leadership. I stood up and did what was right as Edgar did several times. I left that employment soon after; however, I felt good about my decisions. Today I use those same ethical morals in my current and successful job. I guess you could say, like Edgar, I also won by being ethical in the long
