What is oppression? Oppression is defined as prolonged unjust treatment or control. Marilyn Frye a distinguished philosopher and writer is known for her work on sexism and oppression. Throughout this response I will take a look at Frye’s views on oppression and I will also give you my opinion about Frye’s argument involving oppression. I will describe several points Marilyn Frye discusses including: the birdcage, double bind, confinement, and dispersal. Oppression surrounds us on a day to day basis and we don’t even realize it. It is our job as good citizens to look out for oppression and do everything in our power to avoid it to keep from afflicting the ones around us.
