“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” This is exactly what Martin Luther King Jr. did on his journey to achieve justice for the african american community. He did not fight against the violence of the police with more violence. He chose to peacefully protest no matter what happened to him. I chose him because during the civil rights movement, which lasted from 1954 to 1968, he showed courage to stand up in what he believed in no matter what challenges he faced.

has accomplished many achievements in his lifetime that have impacted the way we live our lives today. On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama a woman named Rosa Parks was arrested because she did not give up her seat to a white man on a public bus. Just a few days later on December 5, 1955 Martin organized a bus boycott in the city of Montgomery, Alabama. The blacks in that city would walk miles to get to work. Few black people had cars but the ones who did were willing to carpool with others. The bus boycott lasted 382 days. Finally on December 21, 1956 the Supreme Court ruled that the laws of segregation on the bus were unconstitutional. The blacks and the whites could now ride the buses without any …show more content…
He always showed love to others even when they were doing wrong towards him. Martin completely changed the way we live today. We no longer have segregation in school, busses, stores, or restaurants. We are now able to chose freely what we want to do not what we have to do based on the color of or skin. He has impacted the lives of almost every American. If Martin Luther King would not have spoken up we would not live in the community we are blessed to live in today. Mlk showed courage and respect for other people even though he was faced with adversity, and that is why I think Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most important people in American
