The Potential of Unity
Is inequality still an issue in the United States? In the article “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King, and the picture: “Minor in Social Justice to Focus on Equality, Inequality” by Brian Flood. Both Martin Luther King and Brian Flood discuss the topic of inequality to the general population, and how its impact many people throughout the globe; particularly in the United States. Through figurative language and imagery, the both authors convey a condemnatory tone towards the significance of taking the actions for inequality in an abrupt way and how the achievement of equality takes hardships, and must be accomplished when we are united.

For instance, when King tries to present how equality affects his four little children, he states “…where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”. This figurative language is creating by the diction choices that are in the sentence, for example “content”; what held within the inside, and with his choice of “character”, we can signify it as what makes someone what he/she is. These diction choices accentuate the wrongness of judging someone by their appearance, similar to skin’s color, as opposed to their behaviors and actions. Moreover, Brian Flood likewise delineates this type of scales to highlight the infrequently used for daily essentials, yet they are made from strong, solid metal that are difficult to break like ones’ behaviors and …show more content…
He underscores his dream deeply through his discourse to support the idea of fighting for freedom when he portrays what he finds in his mind as the eventual fate of the American. For instance, when he utilizes nature, physical components to issue the problems of equality, he states “I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plains, and the crooked places will be made straight”. This figurative language creates a picture of seeing everything the world to be balanced, with no low drops, or high peaks. He fortifies his dream through this portray to uncover the considerations of not giving up to the individuals who got inequality because of their skin’s color. In like manner, when Brian illustrates both scales is balanced on both sides, he’s emphasizing the picture of equality can be accomplished by unity of the people.

The author’s utilization of figurative language and imagery reveals the essence of taking the actions for disparity in a sudden way and how the accomplishment of equity can only be accomplished by unity and hardships. It helps the readers to understand the importance of unity, and how with unity, we can go through the mountains of struggles and that’s what also makes us as the United States of
