On January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr. came out of his mother’s womb. Originally named Michael King, King Jr. his name later changed to match his father’s referred to name. His parents, Michael and Alberta King raised him at his childhood home shared with his maternal grandparents in Atlanta. King Jr.’s father later became the pastor of the local Ebenezer Baptist Church after Alberta’s father, the former preacher, passed away.
King Jr.’s father and grandfather actively participated in the Atlanta branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and advocated for social and societal change, heavily focused on the Social Gospel and the use of Christianity in the fight for civil rights,
