Imagine you lived in a world where everything was segregated meaning the colored have totally different privileges than the whites do. Our world use to totally be like this before they made a change. Without this change, everything in our life would totally be different then it is now. Without that one person who decided to stand up to make a change we wouldn’t even be where we are now. That person was Dr Martin Luther King Jr. (who I will refer to as Dr. King Jr.) Dr. King Jr. was a leader of the civil rights movement and co-pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. He became a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. His first major protest was the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott. Dr. King Jr. …show more content…
First of all, Dr. King Jr taught us to overcome adversities by using non-violence. After Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat, the National Association For The Advancement Of Colored People (NAACP) chose Dr. King Jr to lead the boycott because he was young, knowledgeable, and passionate. After 382 days of boycotting Montgomery finally lifted the law mandating segregated public transportation. Excerpts from: Letter from Birmingham City Jail (Excerpt Article 2) states “Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creative tension that a community that has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue.” this completely shows how Dr King Jr. thinks that non-violence will and should always be the answer instead of just killing people to get what you want. Dr King Jr. taught others that without using non-violence you wouldn’t really get what you wanted to achieve because you would be labeled as a terrorist and might end up killed.
