Martin Luther was a catholic monk that was a professor in Wittenberg Germany. The Catholic church started selling slips of paper called indulgences that allowed forgiveness by god to anyone who bought them. Martin Luther did not agree with the sale of the indulgences so he created his Ninety-five Theses at the time he wrote the thesis he had nothing wrong with the catholic church only the sale of indulgences. Luther was later sent to meet the pope and was excommunicated from the catholic church in January 1521. After he was excommunicated by the church he was summoned by emperor Charles V and Martin Luther was made an outlaw within the empire.
