During the early 1800’s, a West Indian slave by the name of Mary Price wrote a narrative that revealed the ugly truths about slavery in the United Kingdom and She was the first black woman to present an Anti-Slavery Petition to Parliament, With slavery being so prevalent in this time period, How does a slave managed to share her story and have everyone actually listen to what she had to endure? How did she accomplish this goal of spreading awareness of slavery? Who helped her? And finally, How much of impact did her story have on the U.K. and their perception of slavery?

Mary’s Birth
Mary Prince was born in 1788, at Brackish-Pond, in Bermuda, to enslaved family, on a farm that belonged to Mr. Charles Mynors. Mary Prince’s mother was a household slave; and her father whose name was Prince and was a shipbuilder for Mr.Trimingham at Crow Lane. When Mary Prince was an infant there was a division of the slaves and other property among the different families that were living in Bermuda.

A man by the name of Captain Darrel who had brought Mary and her mother, and he decided to pass them along to his youngest granddaughter whose name was Miss Betsey Williams.
