In "Captivity" Narrative, Mary Rowlandson describes her Native American captors as "barbarous creatures" (p 41). The first time she was met by the people who captured her, they were lighting several houses on fire and shooting people. One of the men they had shot was begging for his life and they responded by killing him, stripping him, and then they split open his bowls (p 40).
Throughout the time she was captured, the Native Americans treated her poorly. One of these times while she is on a horse with her dying daughter.
