Mary Sherry, “In Praise of the F Word” In her essay “In Praise of the F Word” Mary Sherry advocates That teachers have to follow through with their threats, and parents would have to stand behind them, knowing their children’s best interests are indeed at stake. For example she says, “It means no more doing Schott assignments for him because he might fail. No more passing Jodi because she is a nice kid.”
In other words, it means when you tell the class you will fail them if they don’t do their work then you need to fail them even if they are a nice kid because if you don’t follow through the kids aren’t going to learn anything and they are going to walk all over you and do what they want.
