Mary Surratt’s sentence was a very cruel punishment for such a small thought. She thought she could get away with thinking she could be in on kidnap president Abraham Lincoln. She thought her and the others could of gotten a lesser sentence if they kept her alive a little bit longer they would of had more information and she and a lot of others would still be alive. She was in on kidnapping president Abraham Lincoln which should of had some punishment. She never even did it so she should have been sentenced with imprisonment not to be hanged. She did not even know a little thought could've hurt her and others that much. They said if anybody helps the fugitives they will have some sort of punishment. She never did anything to hurt her or the president at any time. When she states she was in on kidnapping Abraham Lincoln and it never happened they suspected that she was in on the killing as well . she didn't even know John Wilkes Booth was even going to kill president Lincoln . she thought he and her were just going to eventually kidnap him but it never happened, she should of gotten a lesser sentence because she did plan to kidnap the president but she never did intend to hurt him at any point in her life she didn't even know what was going on half the …show more content…
She actually knew who it was but she wanted to claim she didn’t. She figured he had done no good to and for her at any point in time so she didn't really care what happened to the figure of a man. She was in the state of mind where she knew something was going to happen so she just needed to care for herself at anytime she could get. At one point she claimed the man was a blur to her but throughout the rest of the book she could see perfectly fine. So maybe he hadn't done any good for her. He had probably done nothing at that point which made her really mad maybe even mad enough to hold a grudge against him. When Mary Surratt had called John Lloyd to get the guns and all of her son's stuff ready she had no idea what she was getting herself into. She did not know that her son was working with John Wilkes Booth. Even at the most she would of thought they were maybe going to kidnap president Abraham Lincoln.
