● CHAPTER 2. The scientific method refers to bodies of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry must be based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. A scientific method consists of the collection of data through observation and experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypothesis
● A hypothesis is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon
● A theory is a well confirmed type of explanation that we can’t see or get to. Some examples are that we are not alone in the universe and that god exists and evolution.
● A scientific law is a statement based on repeated experimental observations that describes some aspect of the universe.
● THe steps of the scientific method are, first observe second is form a hypothesis third is test your hypothesis, fourth is to analyze last is to communicate your results.
● it is important because it allows for other scientist to know if a hypothesis fails they don't have to wast time of theirs so they can try another hypothesis
