Materialistic items can play a large role run the development of a person. Many children tend to grow up with a connection to a stuffed animal, toy, blanket, or article of clothing. In Gary Soto’s “The Jacket”, the connection isn't a positive one, as the main character blames his jacket for his hardships for the years he wears the jacket.
