The mayans worshipped many gods. Their religion is polytheism. For mayans warfare played an important role in religion. Sometimes the mayans raided other communities to obtain other victims, also they practiced human sacrifice and divination. Some of the main gods are Itzamna, Kukulan (Quetzalcoat) Bolon, Tzacb, Chac. The mayans most powerful god is Chaac. They also have a special goddess of suicide her name is Ixtab. People think the mayan inscriptions are religious in character.

The mayans formed a government. The type of government they created is called Hierarchical government. Their civilization was ruled by kings and priests. Most of the time men ruled but sometimes women ruled if the king was too young. During the classic period they …show more content…
The years of the classic period are from 250-950 CE. In the classic period the mayans perfected mathematics, astronomy, architecture, and visual arts. Astronomy provided the base for everything that happened. Their calendar was divided into 18 months with 20 days in each month. Also, there was the sacred round calendar it is a 260 day calendar. After they made the sacred round they made wells and sinkholes to store their water. Mayans have more than 800 characters in their system of writing. Some of the hieroglyphics signs they created are animals, people, and objects of daily life.
