You are What you Become I never moved to a new place before, but when I do I hope it is nothing like the experience in mean girls where you become something you hate. In losing yourself, you put on difference faces to be accepted by others. You have the self you show at home, the self you show at school, and the self you show to your friends (McCornack, 2013). The way we communication with our friends can increase and decrease our self-esteem. We use the looking-glass self to see who we want to be at school and sometimes we use too much self-disclosure that leads us into a lot of trouble. I chose the movie Mark Water’s 2004 film Mean Girls. The setting is in a school lunch room. The two characters in this clip are Regina and Cady. Regina is asking Cady why she hasn't seen her before and is explaining that just moved from Africa. Regina can not believe she has never been to a real school before. Then Regina compliments her on her looks and bracelet. She asks her does she think she is really pretty and Cady doesn't know if she is. Karen asks her why she is white because she came from Africa. It can bring out a lot of different emotions and those emotions can spread through emotional contagion (McCornack, 2013). When I interaction with people on a daily basis I will remember not to disclose information from the central level of the penetration level to soon because it could be used negatively and affect how the person would interact with me from now own. Stereotypes can affect how people see us and change the there perception of us. This can lead to people treating us differently and not always in a good way.
