Media Ecology is the study of media as environments. This theory deciphers the roles media influences in our everyday lives, how the media structures what we are seeing, and why media makes us feel and act as we do (Neil Postman, 1970). Generally, the term refers to the interplay between media communication and human perception, understanding, values and behavior. Media Ecology is concerned with the contents and uses of various media as well as with the relationships between people, places, technology, and events (Sullivan, 2009).

Script One synopsis:
Family consisting of 4 members is in the house after 6pm. They are all in various rooms (mom’s in kitchen cooking dinner and listening to music on an iPad mini, dad is in office on computer, brother in one room playing video games, and sister is in her room on Skype). No one has chatted or made eye contact due to being attached to their various devices.
Mom: sends a text from her cell phone that dinner is ready to everyone, while listening to music on her pink ipad.
Dad: answers by text, saying that he is still working on his work that wasn’t finished at the department and will come and eat after he is done.
Brad: doesn’t answer or show up for dinner five minutes later due to the fact that he has headphones on and talking to the other members of the video game on the other side.
Susan: answers by text saying, “just a minute, i just need to end the conversation with MY lab partner on Skype. This assignment is urgent.”
At this point Susan is the only one who shows up in the kitchen to eat. Mom and Susan fix their plates. Dad and Brad still have yet to show up.
Mom: Yelling from the kitchen, “Brad dinner is ready. So how is your assignment going Susan, did you get it finished?”
Susan: “Yes, Jesse and I finished the project and so now I am free for the rest of the day.”
Mom: “Good, would you like to go to the movies as a kind of celebration? I was listening to KJ103 and they said that the movie Furious Seven is an excellent movie.”
Susan: “Sure, I would love to!”
After a few more minutes, Mom calls Brad on his cell phone, after texting her husband one more time that dinner is ready.
Mom: “Brad dinner is ready. You need to turn off your game and come to dinner. If you cannot see your text on your phone or hear me yell, you need to not play anymore games.”
Brad: “I didn’t hear my text go off. Are you sure you text me?”
Mom: “Yes Brad, I text you. I have all of you on a group text, so it shows it was sent to all.”
Brad: “Are you sure? I still don’t have it on my phone; I can show it to you.”
Mom: “Well dinner is ready, you can show me then.”
A few minutes later, Brad comes to the table with a plate of food in hand.
Mom: “Brad we are going to the movies, do you want to go?”
Brad: “Sure, what movie are we going to see?”
Mom: “Furious Seven.”
Brad: “I heard that movie is one of the biggest box office hits out of all of the Fast and Furious movies.”
Mom: “Really? I didn’t know that, but it seems to be pretty popular!”
After everyone has eaten, Dad comes in and wants to fix his plate.
Dad: “Sorry, I was trying to finish my end of month spreadsheet. It is due this week.”
Mom: “That’s okay; I just really wish we could all sit down and have a dinner together without all of the electronics.”
Dad: “I understand, but this day and age everyone has some type of electronic device. Even you were listening to your ipad while cooking dinner; I could hear some type of music coming from the kitchen.”
Mom: “Very true, I just want to have a dinner where we all sit down and talk to one another instead of having our devices out and talking to others through that. Susan and I decided to go to
