Have you ever thought about images that appear in media and how they portray sexuality, behavior and body images? Corporate business will spend thousands of dollars to produce a quality commercial ad, and spreads to promote their products. This type of promotion is an image that many viewers find appeasing. Some ways that media reaches their audience is through television, movies, magazines and music. Viewers have full rights to scroll through channels to see what interest them based off of viewers guide. Majority of those channels can display bad behavior, negative body images and the negative side of the lives of celebrities like TMZ. A great example given of poor performance from the television is The Bad Girls Club, which is a reality television show about a group of women who live in a house together over a course of 2 to 3 months. Within these months, these girls show all types of bad behavior to include fighting, having unprotected sex, and drinking large amounts of alcohol. They fight about anything and everything just so that they can increase their so called fan base and the producers love it because it increases their ratings. The more it seems like its real, the more the audience will seem to follow the show. The lifestyle that these girls and other negative TV stars live are promoted as glamorous and that it causes instant fame is definitely unhealthy. On the other hand not all television and media is bad. Television show such as The Voice, Barney and Blues Clues, and other broadcasting station networks have positive effects on their viewers. Positive rap promote education, being ambitious, and they describe women in a decent manner. Examples of this kind of music would be Common, Talib Kwali and Wale, they talk about some of the struggles in their life, but never do they not bring up the positive effect of their difficult situations. Rappers like Wale and Common can make rap turn into more positive work than negative work. This type of rap music stands for something and it’s not just about glamour and how much bling can I buy on credit.
