Marijuana is legal in twenty-three state and D.C. for medical use. There are more dispensaries in Denver than there are fast-food chains many would say. “The idea this is somehow good for us as a nation to make marijuana legal is wrong, it is a bad thing” (Egan, 2014). However there are over 20 states in the United States of America where marijuana is legal. This means it is legal to buy posses and grow marijuana in these states along as you have the doctor’s okay and a special carrying card. Medical marijuana is used to treat a number of illnesses including AIDS, Glaucoma, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Epilepsy, Chronic pain, Anxiety, Depression or Obsession, weight loss and a few others. When society allowed the advertisement of tobacco this completely changed the public’s thinking of the product, this could also happen with marijuana. Even when the Surgeon General’s Report on Tobacco came out stating tobacco was bad for you the product had already taken off and it was too late to change many opinions. Any semblance of encouragement makes the chances greater for the possibility of abuse and takes away from any standpoint that individual restraint is the public’s problem. When the individual states legalize marijuana they are adding pressures which persuades the individual use of this kind of drug is okay. It actually makes it official in a lot of Americans eyes especially the eyes of the youth. Many high school kids in this country feel marijuana is okay to use for a lot of medical problem and that weed was never bad to begin with. The DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart has been quoted saying “that an increasing number of high school seniors don't see regular pot use as harmful”. This medical marijuana is a product that might be legal however from an American, a parent and a stakeholder’s point of view I feel it is unethical and socially irresponsible to be involved
