A hero is someone who does a brave deed or has noble qualities. He/She should be a selfless person who cares for others and is compassionate. A hero usually goes on an adventure and slays a monster / saves a person / gets an object of great power. In the story Perseus, Perseus slays Medusa, a gorgon. A hero, most of the time, has to conquer the insurmountable odds and come out on top in spite of heavy opposition. A hero is a heavy calling. You cannot make any big mistakes that may cause failure. If you do, you instantly become a scapegoat and everyone forgets how heroic you were a few seconds ago. Being a hero means being able to make good decisions under pressure and time constraints. In the ancient times, being a hero meant you performed a great deed. Nowadays, a hero is more like a person who does something to benefit mankind (e.g. save the world) that may include good deeds. People who protect the environment are viewed as hero's. Also, in our world hero's can be scientists. Any person who caused major technological or medical breakthroughs will be considered a hero. If some can cure a disease like cancer, they should not only get a Nobel prize but be considered as a hero. Modern and ancient hero's have some similarities and differences between them. They both are known for doing something special. But, ancient hero's usually involved a brave and unrealistic person who does a courageous deed e.g. Perseus. In modern times, the hero can be anyone, even someone reluctant to act *cough Bilbo Baggins cough*. Nowadays, we emphasize how a normal person can become a hero. Our hero's are more down-to-Earth and realistic when compared to older ones. When the hero's isn't being a hero's their lifestyle mimics our own, one of a societally considered average life. They eat/wear/do what we would normally do. But, when duty calls, they immediately transform into a text-book
